A devastating fire, however, damaged the Windsor Lodge in 1948. And it remained a neglected ruin for the following 50 years. Its renovation was taken up 1999. Care was taken to retain the original colonial architecture. Liberal use of timber in the interiors and of rough hewed stones on the exterior ensured its vibrant antiquity. The last-century building style was successfully synergized with modern day amenities. The Windsor Lodge complex is furnished with period furniture and artifacts that recall the nostalgia and is reminiscent of an era when buildings used to have distinct personalities.

The Windsor Lodge & Hotel today comprises three restored buildings which seamlessly mingle the backdrop of snowcapped peaks and thick forest of pine and cedar. Perched on a hillock, it commands a 360 degree view, and overlooks the nine hole Ranikhet Golf Course on one side and has a stunning view of the Himalayan peaks, such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, Panch Chuli (on clear days), on the other.

By Road from Delhi: Drive via Nizamuddin Bridge, Hapur, Moradabad, Rampur, Bilaspur, Ruderpur, Haldwani, Kathgodam, Bhimtal, Bhowali and Khairna (approx driving time is 8 to 9 hours)
After reaching Ranikhet: Enter Ranikhet Cantonment and take Ranikhet - Almora Road. After the cantonment ends you will find yourself driving through Ranikhet Golf Course. After the Golf Course ends, drive for about 200 mtrs. Just before the Kalika Temple and Srivastava Hospital, a small road branches off on your left. Take this side road and drive for about 300 mtrs. The road ends in Windsor Lodge & Hotel. Enjoy your stay!
