ABOUT DURGA PEEPAL TOUR
Indo Expedition has come with a special Jungle Tour where the location is exclusively searched by our team. DURGA PEEPAL, a jungle which is around 50 kms from Nepal border. Way to Durga Peepal goes from Kathgodam (Haldwani) in district Nainital. This area is full of scenic beauty and away from the reach of daily visiters.
This is the only jungle in India where still wild animals hardly encounter human beings. The slow and steady Nandaur river touches every part of the forest. You can find Mahasheer, Kalonch fish in their bigest size in this river. This Jungle is also called MACHLI VAN. As the name suggest that this river was one full of fished. Local villagers tells that 25-30 years back their were so many fishes in this river that they use to come under the tyres of Jeep passing from the river.
Elephant, Tiger, Leopard, Deer, Bear, and birds of more than 200 species can be found in this jungle. This area can accessed only from September to June. In the mansoon period road madeby forest department for transporting Logs is washed away.
Though today this jungle is unthouched by traveller, but a rest house was built by british in 1906. This rest house is still in excellent conditions. Durga Peepal is a village deep inside the forest where in todays time villages live in an isolated form.
Forest department has appointed a care taker in this rest house, which is from the local village. Total population in Durga Peepal is around 100 people.
Fishing permit can be taken from the forest department from the Haldwani office. Hunting is not allowed in this area. One can see wild aninmals roaming in the open while doing night safari in the night by Jeepsy or Jeep. From Chorgalia to Durga Peepal one can not drive in more than 10 km per hr speed.
For the real wildlife lovers this is the place where s/he can quench his or her thirst for seeing a Jungle in its realistic form.

| Day 1 : |
Arrival at Kathgodam Railway station at around 6 am. We leave for Chorgalia, a village around 45 kms from kathgodam. Upto Chorgalia is a hotmix road. In Chorgalia we show all our permits to forest department's checkpost and then we enter the Jungle area from Machli van at aorund 9 am. We encounter river Nandaur here. From Machli Van Nandaur river flows with us continously upto Durga Peepal. At 10 am we stop at riverside and our cooks starts arranging for fire and cooking breakfast cum Lunch. In the mean time we start fishing and swiming in the river. After Lunch we pack up and leave for Durga Peepal. Visit the most beautiful sites. Reach Durga Peepal at around 4 Pm. Here in the rest house our cooks starts arranging for wood for camfire and cooking dinner. Dinner with Bon fire at night.
At night we take you for Night safari in the Jungle. You can see brightly shining eyes of different animals in all the directions. Even a lion hearted person shivers with the intensity of the jungle. |
| Day 2 : |
Durga Peepal : Today wake up late after night safari. Breakfast at 10 am. Then we take you for sight seeing of jungle including village. Rest of the day engages you with swiming and fishing. Dinner with bonfire again. Overnight at rest house. |
| Day 3 : |
Durga Peepal to Chorgalia (40 kms): After late breakfast we leave for Chorgalia. In between the route we stop for lunch cooked by the river side. Reach Chorgalia at around 5 pm. Overnight at Chorgalia forest rest house. |
| Day 4 : |
Chorgalia to kathgodam : Leave for Kathgodam after breakfast, en'route visit a Surya Devi temple which is made in the roots of tree. Arrive atkathgodam at around 5 pm. Tour ends here. |

These are not permanent camps. We carry our own gears along in our jeeps. Everyday after an exciting day of exploring wildlife, fishing, swimming, bird watching or plain relaxing camps are pitched in the silence of the Sitabani Temple. Our experienced jungle guide helps our guest to know wildlife in better form and local cooks serves Kumaoni cusines like bhat ki chulkani, gahat ki dal etc.
